"I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be hungry; he who believes in me will never thirst." John 6:35
In March 2018, our children made the Sacrament of Reconciliation at St Mary and St Monica's church in Cottingley. Their families joined us for a lovely liturgy. We thought about what the sacrament is all about and listened to stories from the Bible that showed how Jesus forgave people's sins and mistakes and how that transformed them. We examined our conscience using the Ten Commandments to think about our actions. In one of our preparation sessions, we each wrote a sin that we had committed that we were sorry for. Father Sean collected the pieces of paper they were written on and locked them away in a special box. Then, during the liturgy, he burnt them, demonstrating that God had forgiven them and they were totally gone, forever!
After our liturgy, we each made our First Reconciliation. We were all so proud!
In our preparation for making our First Reconciliation, we talked about sin. We also talked about how our conscience can help us decide on the right thing to do. We learned the Act of Contrition.
In May 2017, our Y3 children celebrated their First Holy Communion whereby children entered in a new relationship with God. It was a very special day which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
From 2017-18, Sacramental preparation will change. Y3 children will make their First Reconciliation, but will not make their First Holy Communion until next year when they are in Y4. Y5 and Y6 children will begin to prepare for their Confirmation next year.
